Meet Chef Navi Mudaliar

April 17, 2018

Meet Chef Navi Mudaliar, owner of Navi’s Catering Kitchen and Plymouth’s most recent community partnership. If you haven’t met him yet, you may see him and his staff coming and going from the Plymouth kitchen as he inventories equipment and supplies, organizes and cleans to prep the kitchen for optimum function.

Plymouth’s collaboration with Chef Navi centers on a mutually beneficial exchange; his catering company will use the kitchen to prepare food for their events in exchange for preparing and serving several Plymouth events throughout the year, such as the Homecoming Luncheon, Stewardship Campaign Celebration and Annual Congregational Meeting. Plymouth will only incur food expenses for Plymouth events. In addition, Chef Navi provides a catering option for rental events held at Plymouth such as weddings, memorials, meetings and more.

“I think it’s a perfect partnership for putting our kitchen to good use, while supporting a local business,” said June Hayakawa-Fung. “Navi reached out to us!”

Chef Navi, originally from Fiji and inspired to cook by his father, traveled to Melbourne, Australia, where he received culinary training. After completing his apprenticeship at Denver’s historic Brown Palace Hotel (where he regularly prepared Sunday brunch for 500 people) he moved his family to Seattle. Depending on the scope of the event, he employs four staff (subcontractors) for everything from weddings and parties to in-home dining. He hopes to launch a downtown delivery service within a 10-mile radius in coming months.

“This is yet another way we can expand our ministry to the wider community and support local vendors and people,” said Rev. Steven Davis.

“This is my dream, and Plymouth gave light to this dream,” says Navi, “The kitchen is nice. I’ve been rearranging, labeling and clearing out to make it ready for use. If I can put a smile on someone’s face with food, that makes my day.” Read more at and say hello when you seem him. He will cater our May 13 Mother’s Day Brunch in the Sanctuary.
