In my years working at Plymouth, I have been asked countless times when I would go to seminary. Many in the congregation saw me as a good candidate for ministry before I recognized it in myself. I didn’t think seminary was a realistic possibility, as we were busy raising kids and then getting them through college. But the call to ministry became louder and harder to deny in my life.
I am excited to announce that I start seminary this fall. I have been accepted to a part-time program at Christian Theological Seminary in Indianapolis, which does not require relocation and allows me to continue my work at Plymouth. Here’s a description of Christian Theological Seminary from their website:
“CTS is a school devoted to both academic rigor and open dialogue. Our heritage – rooted in the ecumenical openness of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) – inspires us to seek truth wherever it may be found, creating a diverse conversation driven by the best in modern theological scholarship. Our Master’s degree programs and Doctoral programs prepare candidates to bring visionary social justice, engaged spirituality, courageous leadership, and compassionate counseling to the next generation of Christian community.”
The United Church of Christ and the Disciples of Christ are full ecumenical partners and my seminary education at CTS will prepare me for ordained ministry in the UCC. I will be traveling for intensive classes approximately 4 weeks per year, and also take online classes. I ask for your prayers and well wishes as I begin this new adventure! – Jennifer Castle, Director of Faith Formation
