Companion Training Offered Are you concerned about the impacts of poverty and marginalization on individuals experiencing mental health issues? Are you seeking a way to foster companionship and community in a service-based role? This training is for you. The companionship model of service was founded by Craig Rennebohm as a ministry of presence, operating through hospitality, listening, solidarity, and accompaniment. We provide training for all volunteers to explore these practices as a foundation to cultivating mutuality in service — our next training is on Saturday, April 18 from 9 am to 4 pm at Plymouth Church. Learn how you can get involved by contacting firstname.lastname@example.org and/or visiting our website.
Take Action! The State House passed HB1754 95-3. It is a bill that guides hosting the homeless on faith owned or controlled property for uses that include indoor shelter, safe parking, tent encampments, and small houses; all temporary uses. It is now going to the Senate. You are encouraged to follow this bill here. Lift your voice as it is heard soon in the Senate. Many, maybe most, jurisdictions are over-permitting and limiting hosting on faith properties. Our federal rights are governed by the Religious Land Use and Institutional Persons Act -2000. This law follows on the heels of the Religious Freedom Restoration Act — 1993, and was passed to correct the abuses of how land use toward the practice of faith was being abused by local government. Get familiar with this and tell your neighboring faith communities across denominations.
Share Your Thoughts After listening to our speakers at the 150th anniversary dinner I wanted to know what you all are doing to help the earth. I thought I could help by bring together our ideas and putting them in one place at the church. We can help each other do more if we join together on each other's projects. Send me ideas of things that we could do (even if not completely thought out), things that you are doing or things others have thought of that you think are cool or worth copying. Thanks. -- Bruce Shilling, email@example.com
