Seeking Green Thumbs

April 5, 2021

Plymouth Healing Communities (PHC) is non-profit that provides housing and companionship to folks struggling with homelessness and mental illness. PHC has two (next-door) properties in Beacon Hill that have 13 raised garden beds and we are working to prepare them for the upcoming growing season. This program will allow residents and volunteer companions to grow, manage and harvest fresh produce in their own backyard. We see it as a great activity for companions to gather and connect safely outside together and experience the power of watching something grow from seed and then be able to eat it! Our goal is to eventually have community meals centered around the produce grown and build a welcoming community for residents and volunteers alike.

We are currently looking for volunteers to help with:

  • Garden planning, picking out plants/seeds, preparing the beds
  • Maintain the garden beds: weeding, watering, harvesting, re-planting throughout the growing season on a weekly, monthly or on-call schedule

After an online orientation and 1 in-person on-site orientation, volunteering will be done individually or in very small numbers (to allow social distancing). We would work with you based on your schedule.

Click here to fill out a volunteer application and we will be in touch!
