Rev. Ed. Park preaches this Sunday, September 30, and our relationship with Sanctuary Church begins. The Seattle native was born to Korean immigrant parents who arrived here in the 1960s. Rev. Park grew up Presbyterian and felt a call to ministry at 14. He was licensed in 1993 as a Southern Baptist minister and commissioned by the North American Mission Board in 2001 to plant Sanctuary Church in the Capitol Hill neighborhood where he continues to serve. A graduate of the University of Washington and the Western Seminary Seattle (The Seattle School of Theology and Psychology), Ed is also a state licensed mental health counselor with a private practice in Madison Valley. He met his lovely wife, Esther, during his time at UW, and they are the loving parents of two daughters.
Sanctuary Church made the courageous decision to become open and affirming and is exploring a denomination more aligned with their position of inclusion. Rev. Park shares, “ Grace is at the heart of Sanctuary’s theology, and grace has compelled the church to err on the side of inclusion.”
While they discern, Sanctuary will share space with Plymouth, and will worship in the Chapel on Sundays at 10:30 a.m. This is an exciting and spirit-filled move of God, and an opportunity to extend extravagant hospitality to our neighbors. With joy and gratitude, welcome Rev. Park and Sanctuary!
