BECOMING PART OF A CHURCH COMMUNITY

Caring for Our Community

Plymouth Church Community & Care ministries deepen our sense of community and care for each other. Serving one another gives us opportunities to grow in our own faith journeys, as we become part of something much greater than ourselves.

Childcare Volunteers

"I like taking care of the kids at Plymouth because they are full of joy.

It is fun getting to know them."

— Lauren Castle

Volunteering in the Child Care Ministry offers an opportunity to care for the youngest members of our congregation. It serves vital role in making sure parents with young children can attend services and participate in other aspects of congregational life. Ages range from newborns to 12 years old.

Child care providers are paid by the church; volunteers are also welcome! Child care is provided at Plymouth for church events beyond Sunday worship, such as adult education classes or special services.

Events may take place Sundays or weeknights. Coordinator(s) for summer Sunday child care program receive a stipend.

Child care providers must complete a Washington State background check and complete a Plymouth disclosure form. Brief orientation is also required.

TIME COMMITMENT

One hour orientation. Schedule varies according to the child care provider’s availability.

Companion Ministry

Companions practice the ministry of listening, friendship and support.

Volunteers receive support and training for this ministry.

Companions

Companions seek to be present, listen and offer hospitality to those in special need who come in search of sanctuary or connection with others.

TIME COMMITMENT

One Sunday per month from 8:45 a.m. until the end of the Hospitality Hour.

Community & Care Board

The warm sense of community we experience at Plymouth Church is created and enhanced by our many community and care events and activities, led and supported by staff and volunteers.

Community & Care Board

The Community and Care Board facilitates opportunities for members to care for one other. They work closely with June Hayakawa-Fung, Parish Nurse, to coordinate ministries including: writing cards to members who are ill, coordinating delivery of Christmas and Easter flowers to people in our community who are unable to attend church, and coordinating hospitality. Volunteers make ALL the difference!

Hospitality Hour Hosts

"For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in..."

— Matthew 5:35

Hospitality Hour, a time to socialize with guests and friends, happens every Sunday between 9 am and 11 am services. Be part of the vital hospitality ministry by helping set up refreshments for Hospitality Hour. Volunteers are also needed as substitute hosts when needed, and to provide cookies on occasion. Ministry teams and other church groups are also invited to host Hospitality Hour.

TIME COMMITMENT

1.5 – 2  hours one Sunday/month (or every other month, depending on number of people on ministry team)
